In his book, "The Dark Net," Jamie Bartlett explores, among other things, the large network of websites that allow amateur pornographers to upload explicit videos or perform live for a chatroom audience. Websites like Chaturbate and We Cam Girls use a "tipping" system that lets viewers pay to see certain sex acts.
The chatroom displays a tipper leaderboard, and the top tipper gets a prize.
Bartlett recalls finding one wishlist which included books of left-wing social criticism and a Black & Decker Dust Buster.

Christopher Manley, 46, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty at a previous hearing to 22 serious sexual offences between May 2013 and May this year.
"A long and complex investigation followed, from which the true depths of the depravity of his sexual offending emerged.
"During the course of our investigation, we were advised that Manley had created five user accounts on Twitter from which to access and upload indecent images of children, which were distributed via the social media channel.
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Peter Curley, from the Surrey Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team, said: "These offences came to light after we received information that Manley had made contact with a young girl in the States.
"His computers were seized and found to contain indecent images of children.
He was convicted of five counts of attempting to cause or incite children in the United States to engage in sexual activity on camera, fifteen counts of making indecent images of a child and two counts of distribution of indecent images of children.
